Snoring Implant Surgery

!9#: Snoring Implant Surgery

There are various treatments that are available today to get rid of snoring. There are ranges of products from herbal to homeopathic that claim to be successful for the problem.

When you go to sleep, the muscles in your body relax. The muscles in your throat also have the same tendency. As you doze, the air passages in your throat are contracted by muscle relaxation. It is customary to have smaller breathing lanes during periods of sleep. When these thin air passages are met with extra blockages, snoring happens.

As air flows through your nose and throat, tissue blockages can increase vibrations of the soft palate, the tonsils, the throat and the uvula. In some cases natural herbs can easily treat the blockage - or other treatments like acupressure and magnetic therapy - but in some cases all these treatments fail and one has to consider surgery.

It should be kept in mind that snoring implant surgery is the last option that one should choose. Before going for a surgery one should try for other methods that are available to get rid of snoring. In snoring implant surgery, the surgeons can use polyester. Do not panic. Yes, it is the same polyester that is used in all types of clothing, home furnishings and as a reinforcing fibre in tires, belts, and hoses as well as many medical devices and materials.

The snoring implant consists of three pieces of polyester yarn less than an inch long. They are placed into the soft palate on the roof of the mouth. They prompt the tissue to stiffen and in turn reduce the "flutter" which is the main culprit in the snoring sound. The snoring implant does not involve heating or removing the tissue. This minimizes the pain and any kind of swelling for the patient who is undergoing the surgery. It is retrievable as well.

Most patients can restart normal activities and diet shortly after the snoring implant surgery. Pillar snoring implants are designed to be invisible and should not be felt or interfere with swallowing or speech. Many patients resume normal diet and activities the same day.

In cases of snoring implant surgery a local anesthetic is used. Any discomfort that takes place after the effect of anesthetic disappears in a day or two. After the snoring implant the snoring is considerably reduced or in most of the cases it completely vanishes. It takes about two or three months before there is sufficient fibrosis around the implant to stiffen the palate and relieve the snoring. However, if there are other factors involved such as nasal blockage, large tonsils, lingual hypertrophy, etc. you may need additional treatment or surgery. Usually there are no side effects of snoring implants. The snoring implants are permanent unless an extrusion occurs. The snoring implants may be discarded by the body and can be simply removed. Even when such rejection occurs some stiffening of the palate may, however occur, and this can bring an improvement.
